Family, food and shopping

We've had a great day today, filled with family time, great food, shopping and some errands.
We met up with my grandma, her husband and my cousins again this afternoon, in the center of Copenhagen. We did some shopping, some walking around, and a little bit of relaxing before we headed out to dinner.
The girls were in the Guinness World Records museum when we arrived, so Daniel decided to pose with the world's tallest man while we were waiting for them to get back out.

We went to a place called Riz Raz, that my cousin Jenny found online, which has a great vegetarian/vegan buffet.
We talked and stuffed our faces with delicious food, and we were all pretty darn full by the end of it, before saying goodbye for now and going our separate ways.
It's been really nice seeing them all again and getting to spend some time with them!
My grandma is incredibly sweet, caring and generous, and she gave me this beautiful necklace that she bought when she was in need of some jewelry, and thought of me as she figured she wouldn't really wear it again. And treated me to some bits at H&M. So sweet!

She always helps us out, which we are incredibly grateful for. She's always there for me and makes me feel like a grandchild should!

Groceries, breakfast, etc.

Yesterday it was time for some proper grocery shopping, and we got a good haul.
We go to a few different supermarkets here in our area to get everything as cheap as possible, so we save a little bit of money.

Today we had a pretty darn tasty brunch/lunch that this "grumpy" guy made.

He fried up some scrambled tofu with tumeric, garlic, onions, mushrooms and peppers, and roasted some potatoes.

And we had it with some toast!

Yum!

This guy has been pretty darn cute.

He shortly met another Italian greyhound today (wooo!), and played loads with a big golden retriever! He used to be terrified of dogs so he's made so much progress since we've gotten here and started socializing much more with other dogs while out for walks. Yay!

And later today it's time for this:

Looking forward to seeing the results! I'm hoping for a color close to my natural hair color, so I don't have to think about dyeing my roots. For a while, at least.

Aaand tomorrow it's back to work!

Today has been nice , I was off work, and started the day with taking Atlas for a nice walk in the sun.
We've been taking it easy.
This afternoon started with an unsuccessful trip to the bank. We were going there to register Daniel onto my Danish bank account, and get him a Danish card, but unfortunately they were closed. Typical.
So we walked to the mall, did a bunch of window shopping, and got a few bits. We walked around in Matas (a cosmetic/drug store) for a while, while I was trying to make up my mind about what hair dye to buy. I didn't make up my mind until after we left of course, hah!
But, I got myself some basic things and a little dress on sale. Woop!

Daniel took Atlas to the little fenced in dog-area that we recently discovered, a block away from us, so he could run out some energy, sniff every single centimeter (like he normally does), and have some playtime outside, off the leash.
Unfortunately another dog arrived, a 9-month-old puppy who had tons of energy, a bit too much, perhaps. They started playing, but it apparently got a bit rough, and they took it a bit too far, so Atlas got a few scratches and was pretty much completely covered in dust from the ground when he and Daniel came back. So he got a nice shower, getting all the dust off and cleaning his scratch wounds, and loads of cuddles.

I have absolutely no idea what we're gonna do tomorrow (except from grocery shopping). Perhaps we'll lay in the sun, maybe I'll dye my hair!

Treats from a sunny day

We brought some treats home with us yesterday.

While out walking through the botanical garden, we of course had to visit the garden's own store. I must admit, it was a little like heaven for me. It was a very tiny store (and kind of over-priced), but it had loads of beautiful plants and flowers for sale, as well as all kinds of seeds and garden equipment, loads of gifts like cards, notebooks, little knick-knack and some vintage stuff from the botanical garden itself. We brought home three old, used, born glass jars!

And, like I mentioned, we popped by the organic bakery Naturbageriet that was right nearby the botanical garden.  I had read about their vegan pastries on a few websites, so we decided to try out some things!
We brought home a apple-cinnamon-roll-thingie and a small piece of raspberry cake. It was very reasonably priced, we got a good sized roll for 35 Danish kroner, and the raspberry cake for 16 kroner. And it was pretty tasty!

I must admit that I do miss all the incredibly delicious vegan food in London though. Especially the treats you can get at Vx in King's Cross!

Malin

Food, weekly shopping and jobnet

Today I was finally able to log on to what is called "jobnet" here in Denmark, to officially register my resumé and as a job seeker. Yup, it has actually taken this long for me to get everything I needed to be able to do that! I had to register at an address, get a Danish CPR-number (social security number), get a bank account, register for internet banking, and after that, register for the official signature service via my bank. The only thing that went by amazingly quick, was registering at an address and getting a CPR-number. The rest has taken weeks, which is weird to me, as my experiences both in the UK and in Norway hasn't taken as long of a time as it has here.
But now I have it, and I've done what I needed to. For those of you wondering about the slightly less exciting details about the Danish life!
It might get a lot more exciting if I manage to get a job I'll actually enjoy doing, but that is yet to see. Hopefully something will happen soon.

Other than that, we took our weekly grocery shopping trip out in the pouring rain today.
We go by several stores to save as much money as possible (after figuring out what is cheapest where - I'll be a great coupon collector lady one day), so by the end of it we were completely soaked! But we did stay under budget and got everything we needed, so yay, go us!

After drying up a bit, I started dinner and made a pretty darn tasty one too.
I made a cous cous salad with broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, yellow pepper, courgette, onions and garlic, and a red and green romaine lettuce salad with onions, cucumber and a creamy herb and garlic dressing.
Tasty!

Tomorrow we have a seriously tasty breakfast planned, as we bought some facon while in Sweden that's just been waiting in the fridge, and we just bought some tofu today to make tofu scramble with.
Daniel made me an amazing English style breakfast with facon and tofu scramble once in London, and it was heavenly, so I'm pretty excited for breakfast.

I love food!

Malin

Kao's and Astrich och Aporna

As I mentioned, we went to the vegan supermarket Astrid och Aporna and the vegan restaurant Kao's in Malmø yesterday, and they were both pretty amazing.

Kao's had loads of tasty food on the menu, but we both decided to get the lasagne bolognese, and waited (for a maximum of 3 minutes) for it with a cold, alcohol free beer. It was pretty cheap, and oh my, so tasty! It was perfectly made, with the sauces and the spice. It came with a salad consisting of red cabbage, carrots and lettuce with some oil-based dressing, which was also very nice.

For dessert I had lemon cheesecake and Daniel had snickers cake. Oh my gosh... So delicious!
We also had coffee, which was included with dinner, but that we completely forgot about until after we had finished dessert. Blame the amazing food!

And we walked out of Astrid och Aporna with vegan substitutes of different kinds, like facon, meatballs, pepperoni, chorizo sausages, cheeses and chipotle mayo. And a huge chocolate bar!

We are very much looking forward to feasting on all of it. Especially Daniel, as you can see.

Malin

Malmø and back

We went to Sweden today!
We got on a train at the central station in Copenhagen, and took the 34-minute long train ride to Malmø central station.

We walked around a bit, looked at some sights, and eventually found what we were looking for: the vegan supermarket Astrid och Aporna!

It was an amazing store, so much to chose from, and it was really nice knowing that everything in there was vegan. The prices were a little higher than expected though, so we didn't walk out of there with as much as we expected to, haha. But we did do a good haul!
After shopping, we headed straight to the vegan restaurant Kao's, which is right nearby Astrid och Aporna, for some tasty dinner!

I'll write more about the vegan food and dinner at Kao's later!

Oh, and someone was pretty happy to see us when we got back home, after an eternity away (or a few hours)...

Loads of love,
Malin

Bank and frenchies

After going to the bank to sign some papers in order to open a Danish bank account, we headed to the mall to, first of all, look for a little jewelry screw driver for a septum piece Daniel is waiting for.
We couldn't find that, but did allow ourselves to buy some handy things, and a few unnecessary things.
I got myself two new drawing pens, we got some white tac so that we can hang some things on the wall, we found a really cool black and white world map to decorate the walls with, and I found a really pretty dress on sale.

Then we went to a pet shop we spotted on the way, to look for a new (non-plastic) food bowl for Atlas. The woman who worked there had her two beautiful French bulldog girls with her, and they were absolutely adorable and really wanted to play!

We walked out of there with a new food bowl for Atlas, and some high quality, ethical dog food that hopefully will decrease Atlas' skin problems. He doesn't have anything serious at all, just a pimple or two on his chin or around his mouth, and he got a little allergy rash on his tail (that is almost gone already), but we thought we'd try to change his diet a little to see if there's any improvement.
Because we want to keep our pup happy and healthy, of course!

Tomorrow we're planning on trying to take a trip to IKEA again, to get the last of the stuff that are somewhat essential for a comfortable apartment. Like a desk that I can sit and work and/or draw at, and a little shelf to put all the little stuff on that are still in our suitcases.
And we're going to try to pop by a second hand lamp shop that we spotted yesterday, and see if they might have a cool, cheap lamp that we can put in the living room.

Loads of love,
Malin
